The Part of the House I Love Most Is Outside

I still love interiors and beauty and all the usual things, but since moving to the countryside the garden has become my favorite part of the house, and where I feel most like myself.

Every spring, I get so excited to be back in the garden. Just thinking about what needs to be cleaned up, what I want to plant and move around, and how I want everything to feel once summer gets here is enough to make me happy.

This has become one of my favorite rhythms of the year. A process that is honestly more satisfying than most of the things I think about inside.

Lately, I’ve been out there getting everything ready again, and these are a few things I keep using and loving along the way.

A Few Things I Keep Using and Loving in the Garden

A metal watering can
I use mine constantly, so I’d rather have one I actually like looking at. No plastic cans allowed here!

A flat basket
If you have a flower garden you know that a flat wicker basket is necessary.

A giant hat
This hat has the biggest rim, which is what I really wanted for the most sun protection.

Terracotta pots
I love the look of terracotta, especially once it starts to age a little.

Pruning shears
One of those things that seems boring until you use a good pair. My one requirement is that my shears are made in Japan.

Good gloves
Not the most thrilling purchase, but a good pair really does make a difference. Extra points for long sleeves.

Slip-on clogs
I bought my first pair of Dansko clogs several years ago and nothing else has lived up to it.

A gardening book
I got this book last year and it's been the main source of my inspiration.
